l'Isle sur la Sorgue

At the gateway to the Luberon, l'Isle sur la Sorgue is not to be missed. As its name suggests, it is centred on an island in the meandering crystal clear waters of the Sorgue river which flows from a spring at Fontaine de Vaucluse 7kms away.

It developed as a fishing village in the Middle Ages and by the 19th century the textile industries of silk and wool were flourishing here.

Today the regular Sunday market attracts thousands of visitors and it is well known as the centre for ‘antiques’ with more than two hundred dealers established here.
